Have you ever been a starving artist in one of these situations?
- You are invited to a pitch-in/potluck dinner and want to bring a wonderful dish, but don't think you can afford the ingredients?
- You want to host a dinner party for a special occasion but think it will cost too much.
- You see a delicious entrée on television or as you pass by a restaurant and get a craving for something besides potatoes, pancakes or noodles?
The recipes at this blog are not only fun, easy and inexpensive, they are things that people would really want to eat -- things that make you want to taste them when you smell them cooking. There are recipes for every meal and occasion, from sweet potato cinnamon rolls to pasta sheets and mushroom cream sauce. They even give advice on the best cheap wines, where to get them, and what to pair them with.
Granted, you might have to alter the recipes a bit to get the yield you want, and they don't include pantry items (flour, olive oil, etc.) in the cost of the groceries/meal, but often the cost will be even lower than their estimates, if you already have, say, eggs or shredded cheese in stock.
The best part is remembering that a dinner party or a special meal doesn't have to cost a fortune -- it is about the occasion and the enjoyment of the food.
"Bon appétit!"
