My grandmother and I decided that I need to lose about 25 pounds. Ugh!
She is 90 years old and has somehow maintained a weight of 105 through six babies, aging, osteoporosis, and shrinking -- and she gets very concerned if she steps on the scale and it says 104 or 106. She said that when she was my age, she was the same height I am -- 5'2.
I told her I could probably manage to make it down to 125. I weighed 125 six years ago -- before I started dating my boyfriend and before I took a job working in a doctor's office. I was pretty happy with my image at that time, and I fit into the nice clothes I bought for my new job.
I told her I might have weighed 105 when I came back from California (after days of practically starving). My sister agreed that I looked pretty good back then -- especially when I wore the outfit that I wore on the plane home -- shiny fake snakeskin pants and a skinny black tank top with a shiny silver sunshine on the front. (What a show-off!)
Yeah, I looked good back then. I looked like a skinny Hollywood actress. People back home couldn't wait to get some meat on my bones!
I told my grandmother I'd work on getting down to 125 and then we could take it from there. I've tried to lose weight several times over the last six years and haven't succeeded at all. However, I just dealt with a huge lifestyle change and this is a time for new beginnings.
How do you think I will do?
Simply, if I update you, I'll probably be making progress. If you hear no more about it, then it will be pretty apparent that I didn't stick with my plans.
Oh, funny thing my grandmother said, too. She said, "I just don't understand people that feel hungry all the time. I've never felt hungry a day in my life." Are you kidding me!? Well, some people are just like that I guess. I'm not! I'm hungry right now!
Give me a break tomorrow, okay? The boyfriend is planning on making Cuban sandwiches, which I love, and it will be my first well-rounded meal this week.
